Associates of Brookdale Senior Living are embracing the Alzheimer’s Associations’ challenge to "be on the move to end Alzheimer’s," and have raised funds, recruited participants and raised more funds than ever to support the cause. So far, the Nashville office alone has donated more than $63,000.
In addition, the team was also honored and presented with plaques for "Largest Team" and "Highest Fundraising Team."
The Mid South Chapter Alzheimer's Association 2008 Memory Walk was held on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Centennial Park.
"Brookdale Senior Living is one of the nation’s leading providers of Alzheimer’s and dementia care," said Bill Sheriff, chief executive officer of Brookdale Senior Living. "Our goal every year is to gain 100 percent participation from our associates. Whether they participate in volunteering during a fundraiser, payroll deduction, gaining sponsors and/or walking, we all are dedicated to do whatever we can to raise awareness and funds to help treat and eradicate this terrible disease."
To prepare for the walk, the corporate headquarters of Brookdale Senior Living, located in Brentwood, Tenn., conducted unique fundraisers to raise money for the Walk. Selling casual day stickers, hosting breakfasts and lunches, holding penny wars between departments, having a jewelry sale, conducting a chili cook-off and cake walk and selling various sweet treats are just some of the creative ideas the office hosted this year. Two of the biggest opportunities for fundraising were the silent auction, which raised nearly $16,000 this year, and a payroll deduction option, which earned more than $5,800.
"I am proud to see such energy and a strong commitment from our associates," said Sheriff. "Having everyone help out and come together to support this worthy cause is a true testament to the amount of care and passion each person dedicates to our mission."
The other corporate offices of Brookdale Senior Living, located in Chicago and Milwaukee, participated in local Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks as well.
Brookdale Senior Living is a Platinum National Team for Memory Walk 2008. The company has pledged to raise at least $400,000 in this year’s campaign. In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for the Memory Walk.
Brookdale Senior Living communities provide programs and services that focus on maximizing quality of life for seniors at any stage in life, including independent living, assisted living, and supportive services such as rehabilitation, Alzheimer’s/dementia care, skilled nursing and more.
Clare Bridge communities of Brookdale Senior Living focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Clare Bridges and other select communities offer secured environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure daily moments of success for residents.
